Wesley Snipes Submits Letters from Denzel Washington, Woody Harrelson in Plea for Reduced Tax Sentence

Wesley Snipes is set to be sentenced today by a Florida court for three misdemeanor tax convictions. Snipes got a huge break in February when a jury acquitted him of federal tax fraud and conspiracy charges after a very bizarre trial, but Snipes was convicted for failing to file a tax return and now could be jailed for up to three years and face a fine of nearly $5 million.

Snipes buddies, including Denzel Washington, Woody Harrelson and others, have sent letters to the court lauding the actor's high character and pleading for a reduced sentence. Click here to read the letters of support from Snipes' friends.

Harrelson's letter in particular may raise some hackles, as he claims that followers of Louis Farrakhan caused him trouble on the set of "Wildcats." He says it was the "first time I experienced racism to me," and that he benefitted from a tutorial by Snipes on the issue.

As for Washington, he says Snipes is "like a tree — a mighty oak," before quoting Psalm 1:3.

Check back later to see if these words have any effect on sentencing.

UPDATED: Looks like Snipes got the maximum three years. So much for friends in high places.
