Hollywood Docket: Here's Looking At You, Kid

A roundup of some new lawsuits and one decision:

• The son of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall is claiming he was taken advantage of during time spent under the employment of Moda Entertainment. Stephen Humphrey Bogart claims in a lawsuit filed in New Jersey that he spent more than 3 years working for Moda, hired to promote the full service entertainment company, and was only compensated for two months. He says he was cheated $340,000. In addition, Bogart says Moda hired him to get him to transfer licensing rights for his father's name and was threatened with assault when he took his complaints to the company's CEO, Richard Zampella.

• All the major film studios including Universal, Warner, Paramount, Sony, and Fox, have teamed together for a lawsuit filed in Australia against an ISP called iiNet that the plaintiffs claim "did nothing to prevent" copyright infringement on the part of its customers. iiNet CEO Michael Malone responds there's nothing the company can do. The dispute will be heard in court on December 17.

• A San Francisco federal judge has denied an attempt by the Council on American-Islamic Relations to extract legal costs from conservative radio host Michael Savage. The group wanted Savage to pay after losing a lawsuit accusing the group of copyright infringement and racketeering for using audio clips from Savage's show. But Judge Susan Illston writes, "While the court agreed with defendants' fair use argument, there were features of the decision which required analysis."
